What Is the Express Entry CRS Score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points-based system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Your CRS score determines whether you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency. The maximum possible score is 1,200 points.

CRS points are divided into four main categories: core human capital factors (age, education, language, Canadian work experience) worth up to 500 points if single or 460 if married, spouse factors worth up to 40 points, skill transferability worth up to 100 points, and additional factors worth up to 600 points (including provincial nominations and valid job offers).

Recent Express Entry Draw Scores (2025–2026)

IRCC has shifted heavily toward category-based draws since 2024. In 2025, over 113,000 ITAs were issued across 58 draws. The most significant trends entering 2026 include Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws with cutoffs around 509–520, French-language proficiency draws with cutoffs as low as 379–400, and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws with scores ranging from 667 to 855 due to the 600-point nomination bonus.

Express Entry is actively issuing invitations in 2026 through Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), French-language, and category-based selection rounds. Because category-based and CEC draws often have lower CRS cut-offs than older all-program rounds, a provincial nomination, Canadian work experience, or French proficiency can still meaningfully improve your chances.

How CRS Points Are Calculated

Tips to Improve Your CRS Score

Retake your language test. Moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 in all abilities can add 20+ points. This is the single fastest way to increase your score.

Add French proficiency. Even a basic French test result (CLB 7 or higher) adds up to 50 bonus points and makes you eligible for French-language category draws with cutoffs as low as 379.

Get a provincial nomination. A PNP nomination adds 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an ITA. Our Alberta AAIP, BC PNP, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario calculators can help you assess eligibility.

Gain Canadian work experience. One year of Canadian experience adds up to 80 points and makes you eligible for CEC draws with lower cutoffs than general rounds.

Complete Canadian education. A Canadian diploma or degree adds 15–30 additional CRS points on top of your education credential score.

Express Entry CRS Calculator — FAQ

What is a good CRS score in 2026?
It depends on the draw category. CEC draws in early 2026 had cutoffs around 509. French-language draws accepted scores as low as 400. PNP draws show higher cutoffs (700+) because of the 600-point nomination bonus. For candidates without category advantages, a score above 520 is competitive for CEC draws.
How often are Express Entry draws held?
IRCC holds draws approximately every two weeks, sometimes more frequently. In 2025, there were 58 draws totalling over 113,000 invitations. Draws are category-specific (CEC, French, healthcare, etc.), so frequency varies by category.
Can I enter the Express Entry pool without a job offer?
Yes. A job offer is not required to enter the pool. However, as of 2025 a job offer no longer adds CRS points — IRCC removed arranged-employment points. A provincial nomination still adds 600 points, which remains the strongest boost.
What are category-based Express Entry draws?
Since 2023, IRCC can target draws to specific 10 category-based draws in 2026 — renewed categories: French-language proficiency, healthcare and social services, education, STEM, and trades; plus five new for 2026: physicians, researchers, senior managers, transport, and skilled military recruits (the agriculture and agri-food category was discontinued for 2026, and you now need at least 12 months of qualifying experience to be eligible). These category draws often have lower CRS cutoffs than general draws.
How long does Express Entry processing take?
After receiving an ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete application. IRCC aims to process most Express Entry applications within 6 months from the date the complete application is received.
Can I improve my CRS score after entering the pool?
Yes. You can update your Express Entry profile anytime to reflect improved language scores, additional work experience, a new educational credential, or a provincial nomination. Your CRS score will be recalculated automatically.
