What an RCIC actually is

A Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant is the only category of immigration consultant authorised by federal law to represent clients before Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for compensation.

RCICs are bound by the CICC’s Code of Professional Conduct, must carry professional liability insurance, complete mandatory continuing professional development each year, and are subject to a public complaints and discipline process. Using an unlicensed “immigration agent” or “consultant” who is not an RCIC, lawyer, or paralegal is illegal in Canada and is a leading cause of refused applications.
